One hour of free parking to be provided in Camborne’s Rosewarne car parks from 5 January

One hour of free parking is being provided at the Rosewarne car parks in Camborne from Monday, 5 January to help support the local community whilst highways works are being carried out in the town centre as part of the Town Deal’s Renew scheme.

Part of the wider Camborne Town Deal Transport Project, the works to enhance the appearance of Camborne town centre and improve access for pedestrians and cyclists will involve vehicles being periodically restricted from certain areas of the town.

The offer of one hour of free parking, which will remain in place until the scheduled end of the project in May, is designed to help support businesses and the local community while vehicle access is restricted.

“Whilst we will be working closely with our partners to keep disruption to a minimum, we recognise that the restrictions will temporarily affect local businesses, residents and visitors to the town,“ said project lead Kieren Couch.  “We hope that providing one hour of free parking will encourage people to continue to visit the town centre during this period.”

Although parking at both the Rosewarne Short Stay and Rosewarne Extension car parks will be free for the first hour, all motorists, including blue badge holders, still need to obtain a ticket to display, or by using the Just Park app, on arrival even if they only intend to stay for the free period.

Following the free hour, the usual charges will be in place at both the Rosewarne car parks.

Please note that the offer only applies to the Cornwall Council run Rosewarne car parks – normal charges remain at all the other car parks in Camborne.

The Renew scheme focuses on improving the environmental aspect of the town centre by:

  • Adding new seating and plant greenery
  • Improving pedestrian crossings throughout Trelowarren Street
  • A new zebra crossing at Fore Street
  • Extending on-street free parking at the top of Trelowarren Street from 30 minutes to an 1 hour
  • Repairing paving defects in Commercial Square
  • Installing enhanced lighting and CCTV
  • Providing cycle parking

Work on the first phase began in November within New Connexion Street, with work on the second phase at Commercial St and around the town square due to start in early January.  This will require several short-term road closures with diversion routes clearly marked with advanced signage. Pedestrian access with be maintained during the works, with access for deliveries provided as close to individual businesses as possible.

Works will then continue through into the spring, with plans being developed to ensure that the road is clear and open for Trevithick Day. Following Trevithick Day, the remaining works (primarily surfacing and laying of the new imprint paving) are due to be completed by the end of May. Information about the works is being published on the Camborne Town Deal Transport Project page on Let’s Talk Cornwall https://letstalk.cornwall.gov.uk/camborne-renew

Anyone with queries or concerns about the works is asked to call 0300 1234 222 or email Cormac at [email protected].
