Work re-starts at Lowarth Holman

Work to create a green and attractive gateway to Camborne Town Centre at Lowarth Holman, formerly known as Kerrier Way, re-started this week.

Camborne Town Council has appointed Mid Cornwall Landscaping Ltd to complete construction after the sudden loss of the project’s previous contractor.

This resulted in a series of unavoidable delays and a complex process of reviewing designs, securing approvals, updating costs and undertaking another full procurement exercise.

Plans to significantly improve the brownfield site near Tesco were submitted in the Camborne Town Deal investment plan and more than £1m was awarded for its transformation.

Councillor Chapman, Mayor of Camborne said: “We’re extremely pleased to have appointed Mid Cornwall Landscaping Ltd and to be in a position where we can see the project moving forward again. I’d like to thank residents for their patience throughout what has been a challenging period. We’re excited to see works recommence and bring this important project to completion.

“While this process has taken longer than originally anticipated, it has ensured that the project can move forward with confidence and provide a high-quality public space for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come.”

Works are expected to continue throughout the summer, with completion anticipated in mid-September.

Once complete, Lowarth Holman – will provide an attractive and welcoming green space in the heart of Camborne, creating new opportunities for people to relax, meet friends, enjoy nature and spend time outdoors.

Jon James, Camborne Town Council’s Town Clerk said: “A great deal of work has taken place behind the scenes to get the project to this point. The delays have been frustrating for everyone involved, but we now have a clear route to completion and look forward to seeing the community enjoy the finished space.

“On behalf of the Council, I would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding during an undoubtedly challenging period for everyone concerned.”

John Cosgrove, Vice Chair of Camborne Town Deal Board, said: “The Town Deal programme is about creating lasting benefits for Camborne, and Lowarth Holman is an important part of that vision.

“It’s fantastic to see the project moving forward once again and nearing the point where residents can begin to enjoy the space.”

A community celebration is being planned for the autumn when all works have finished. Further details will be announced closer to the opening date.

Lowarth Holman, then known as Kerrier Way, was one of ten projects in Camborne to be awarded £23.7m by Government in 2021 as part of its Town Deal initiative. Administered by Cornwall Council, the projects’ collective aim is to regenerate the heart of Camborne and transform it into a visually appealing, accessible place to live, work, shop and visit.
