Camborne Town Deal has reached another important milestone with the announcement that a state-of-the-art cultural and community hub is going to be developed in two former council offices on Basset Road, close to the town centre.
Cornwall Council originally intended to sell off The White House and Basset Centre but has instead agreed that the two listed properties should be transformed into a mixed-use facility to benefit local residents. The buildings are adjacent, easily accessible and share the same garden and parking area.
Camborne Town Council will lead on the project which is part of a large-scale regeneration programme that includes a park being created on vacant space in Kerrier Way, next to Tesco filling station. Public realm improvements to Trelowarren Street and Commercial Square are also aimed at making the town centre a greener, more sustainable and pleasant place for shoppers.
Replacing the Buzz Station originally proposed in the Town Investment Plan, the town centre’s major redevelopment will benefit a much wider area and become a focal point for leisure, learning and commerce.
Initial concepts for the Basset Centre and White House include a modern, well-resourced library, a youth café, co-working amenities, a flexible performance space that could be used for a range of entertainment and community purposes and a piazza.

To that end, we’ll be holding public consultations in the coming weeks so that local residents and businesses can come along, find out more about our concepts and give us their input.”
