Duchy College Rosewarne, near Camborne, has showcased exciting campus upgrades which will boost the local economy and support the food and agriculture sectors.

New business enterprise space with almost 400 new work spaces have been created at the Rosewarne campus, for the use of start-up land-based industries such as market gardening, small scale food production and rural crafts.

A redundant building, which was formerly an agricultural engineering workshop on site, has been refurbished and repurposed to accommodate four units of work spaces.

Additionally, a new Farm and Food Hub, focused on improving access to affordable and sustainable food for local people has been created at the existing café building at the college.

For Head of Duchy College Rosewarne, Luke Bazeley, this in an exciting step towards a more resourceful and sustainable future.

“Our colleges are at the heart of the community. By providing a training kitchen for the delivery of short courses at Rosewarne, we will improve access to affordable food and healthy living for local people,” added Luke.

Val Dalley, Chair of the Camborne Town Deal board, expressed her delight with the difference the campus upgrades will make.

“We’re very fortunate to have Duchy College Rosewarne on our doorstep. The courses and quality of education it offers are excellent and these improvements, funded through Camborne Town Deal, mean more people can learn vital countryside skills. They will also increase supply of fresh, local food and the importance of that, during the current cost-of-living crisis, cannot be emphasised enough.”

Councillor Louis Gardner, portfolio holder for economy, has supported the project.

He said: “It was a pleasure to visit Duchy College Rosewarne recently, and to see for myself the new business enterprise space and Farm and Food Hub.

“This Town Deal investment is delivering sustainability right where it is needed; offering land-based enterprises the opportunity to grow within an expert community and nurturing local peoples’ skills and abilities to enjoy local and affordable food.”

The Food and Farming Enterprise project was funded by the UK Government through Council Council’s Camborne Town Deal.
